Monday March 5th Top Sports News

Follow us on Twitter : @sportsjournal5
NFL:
  • Mickey Loomis G.M of the Saints might get fined as he lied in the NFL's investigation of the Bounty-Gate scandal, he also clarified his words and said that Brees is a great quarterback.
  • The New Orleans Saints have placed their franchise-tag on QB Drew Brees and their other top free-agent target Carl Nicks hasn't gotten an offer yet.
  • The Saints have not received their punishment for one of the NFL's biggest scandals but are expected to get it before March 25th.
  • Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has been working out at Duke University and a video has surfaced on the internet in which you can see him throw pretty well. His dad, Archie Manning said that : "I saw him throw and he looked like Peyton". Good news for him, I didn't want to see him end his career in that note.
  • The salary cap has not been announced yet and the league and the union are trying to make it higher.
  • The New England Patriots are expected to Wes "Butterfingers" Welker as they are looking to add yet another Wide Receiver.
  • The Redskins are being investigated too for "bounty-gate" and the Buffalo Bills apparently had a bounty system too under Gregg Williams.
  • In other Redskins news, they are the favorites on trading for the St. Louis' Rams draft pick as they are very interested in getting Robert Griffin III.
  • The Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch have agreed on a new contract. SKITTLES!!

NBA:
  • David Stern is expected to leave the NBA after the 2013-2014 season. Not if we veto the move, right Lakers fans?
  • Lamar Odom did not play a game in the D-League and actually had a good game on Saturday as the Mavericks played the Utah Jazz.
  • The Celtics and Atlanta Hawks have talked for a deal involving Josh Smith and the Big 3. Would you pull the trigger on the trade?
  • In news that shows that the Los Angeles Clippers want to get younger, it is rumored that they are interested in adding Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics. Kidding aside, it would be a good addition as he is still an amazing sharpshooter and will bring veteran experience.
MLB:
  • The San Diego Padres and Cameron Maybin reached a $25 million dollars, 5 year deal. This contract will keep in San Diego until 2017 and there is a club option in the contract.
  • The Oakland Athletics finally made official that they have signed the Cuban defector, Yoennis Cespedes. Good luck in the majors!
  • Another problem for New York Mets fans as Ike Davis has Valley Fever symptoms. Yeah, like you I also don't know what is Valley Fever.
  • Lefty pitcher Mike Gonzales who was with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles last year is still a free-agent, because he won't lower his price, got a minor-league offer from the Rangers but obviously declined. Better play somewhere for less money than not to play at all...
  • Corey Hart the outfielder of the Milwaukee Brewers has been injured and will miss about 3 to 4 weeks. Bad news for Brewers fans in an offseason that hasn't been the best as they lost their star to the Detroit Tigers.
  • In Detroit Tigers news, they hit 9 home-runs against the Atlanta Braves in a spring-training game. Now do that in a real game.
Soccer:
  • Some Chelsea fans might be happy, other ones might not be happy. Andre Villas Boas was sacked just a day after Chelsea's disappointing loss to West Brom. I do not agree with this move as I find AVB a manager with a huge potential and that if Abramamovich gave him another year he would have succeeded but what can you do. He is now the past. Assistant Di Matteo has been named manager. Do you think that Mourinho will come back at summer? Comment below.
Predicting tonight's games:

  • Kings over Nuggets
  • Portland over New Orleans
  • NHL
  • Penguins over Coyotes

Noteworthy thing of the day:
  • The Twitter bird, the one on Twitter's logo is named Larry. Can you guess why? C'mon you have 2 seconds to comment below before I reveal the answer. Yes, it comes from NBA Hall-of-Famer Larry Bird.
