NFL:
- The Green Bay Packers have signed tight end Jermichael Finley to a approximately $15 million two year deal reports CBSSports.com
- Rodney McKissic of the Buffalo News says that if star wide receiver Stevie Johnson and the Buffalo Bills don't reach a deal he will not be franchised and will hit the open market.
- As we said yesterday, Joe Johnson will be out of the All-Star game Sunday and his replacement is Rajon Rondo announced the NBA yesterday night. The Hawks' star was supposed to participate in the three game competition too but will be replaced by Kevin Durant.
- Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert is injured and it's being reported that he will be also out of the All-Star week-end as he was scheduled to participate in the Slam-Dunk Contest. Too bad, I looked forward to see him.
- Free-Agent Joel Pryzbilla has signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. In other Blazers news Raymon Felton has been benched as the starting role has been given to Jamal Crawford, it's been a bad year for the former starting Point Guard of the Knicks.
- Future home? The Orlando Magic beat the Nets in New Jersey 108-91. It was the Dwight Howard Show as he recorded a double-double (20 points, 17 rebounds.)
- The Oklahoma City Thunder scored 70 in the first half and then another 49 to hand the Boston Celtics their 5th straight loss as they beat them 119-104 . The Thunder were led by Russel Westbrook who had 31 points and 6 dimes.
- The New Orleans Hornets beat the Cavaliers Wednesday night 89-84 as Chris Kaman scored 21 points and Vazquez posted another 15.
- The New York Knicks pretty much handled the Johnson-less Hawks in Madison Square Garden yesterday as they beat them 99-82. Jeremy Lin had 17 points and 9 assists, Melo had 15 and Fields 16. I never thought that the Knicks' top scorer would be the Knicks top scorer when we got him. Linsanity Meter: 5 --> Good win to get back on track on Linsanity.
- The Bobcats suffered another loss, this time at the hands of the Indiana Pacers 102-88 as six of Indiana's players were in double figures, they were led by Hansbrough 22. Here's a funny tweet on the game:
- The Phoenix Coyotes and Colombus Blue Jackets made a deal yesterday. The Jackets traded Vermette for two picks and McElhinney to the Coyotes. Is Rick Nash next out of the door or Jeff Carter?
- Ruutu has agreed to a $19 million, four year contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes. Trade rumors are finally killed.
- The Ovechkin-less Washington Capitals lost to the Ottawa Senators 5-2 as Michalek scored two goals and the Caps failed to make a comeback as they fell back 4-0 in the first two periods.
- Edgar Renteria will probably retire and Jason Varitek also seems to be heading that way as the Red Sox captain was invited to Spring Training but has not showed up yet.
- The Los Angeles Angels have put up billboards with Pujols on them and the name "El Hombre" but Pujols doesn't like the name and says that he didn't approve of the billboards. Bad start but whatever he has a no-trade clause and will earn a lot of money so I wouldn't worry about little things like this.
- Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has started training to get back from the injury he suffered last year against the Cardinals in Philly's last game of the year as they were eliminated.
- According to Buster Olney, Michael Pineda looks bigger than C.C. Sabathia who reported thinner than last year in Spring Training. Good sign.
Soccer:
- In Uefa Champions League competition we have two amazing finishes and both of them were upsets! Firstly Andre Ayew of Marseille scored a goal in the 90th minute to give them the win against Inter Milan of 1-0! In the bigger upset Basel beat Bayern Munich as Stocker scored in the 86th minute. WOW!
- The Uefa Europa League's defending Champions Porto have been eliminated from the tournament as Manchester City beat them 4-0 and on aggregate 6-1. Agüero, Dzeko, Silva and Pizarro scored the goals for City. Ouch.
