Top 10 Transactions of the MLB Offseason 2012

10) Hiroki Kuroda signs with the Yankees

On Friday the 13th the Yankees woke up and finally did something in the free-agency period. Their second move was signing the former Dodger pitcher to a $10 million, 1 year contract. This was a very good move by Brian Cashman as he signed a quality starting pitcher to adress the Yankees pitching woes but it wasn't his best deal of the day.

9) Carlos Beltran signs with the Cardinals

On December 22nd the Cardinals gave fans a reason to still believe in the team that had lost their heart and soul in Albert Pujols. They signed Carlos Beltran to a $26 million, 2 year contract. Of course this deal doesn't replace Albert Pujols. No signing could replace Albert Pujols as he is arguably the best baseball player right now but this signing was a good one for the Cardinals as they a very good outfielder and a power hitter in Beltran.

8) Yu Darvish signs with the Rangers

On December 19th the winning bidder of the Yu Darvish posting was announced and it was the Texas Rangers who had bid $51.7 million for the ace. Almost a month later they reached a deal with him in a contract worth $60 million dollars for six years. This is a good deal for the Rangers as they were able to replace their ace CJ Wilson who went to the Angels but I think that the Blue Crew overspent on Yu Darvish as they will pay a total of $117.1 million for the Japanese ace and we all know how to Dice-K experiment went for the Red Sox.

7) Mark Buerhle signs with the Marlins

On the day that the Marlins signed Jose Reyes they also signed a quality pitcher, Mark Buerhle to a four year, $58 million contract.  This was a good signing for the Marlins as they made their rotation better and signed another big name.

6) Jose Reyes takes his talents to the Marlins

On December 7th 2011, the Miami Marlins pulled off the first big signing of the off-season. They signed All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes. The ex-superstar of the Mets signed a six year, $105 million contract with the Fish. This was a good signing as the Marlins acquired a superstar that could make other stars come to Miami and also give the fans a good reason to come watch the Marlins at the new stadium. The only thing that could hurt this signing is the history of injuries of Jose Reyes.

5) CJ Wilson joins the Halos

On the day that Albert Pujols agreed to become an Angel, the former Texas ace became one too in a $77.5 million , 5 year contract. Another good pickup for the Los Angeles Angels as they made their rotation even better as Wilson joined Dan Haren, Jared Weaver and Ervin Santana even though I am a Yankee fan this looks like a rotation that could win you the World Series.

4) TIE Edwin Jackson becomes a Nat + Gio gets traded to Washington

Late December Gio Gonzales along with Rober Gilliam was traded to the Washington Nationals for Brad Peacock, Tom Milone, Derek Norris and A.J. Cole. While the Nats gave away a lot of players the play of Gio Gonzalez will show that it was worth it. The Nationals also showed to the MLB world with this move that they want to win now.
Late in the offseason Edwin Jackson signed a one year deal worth $11 million. This was a very good move by the Washington Nationals as they turned their pitching rotation very dangerous during this offseason as he joins Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman and Gio Gonzalez. This is an extremely dangerous and young rotation.

3) Michael Pineda gets traded to the Evil Empire

On Friday January the 13th, the Yankees and Mariners pulled off a blockbuster trade which saw Michael Pineda traded to the Bronx Bombers along with Jose Campos and saw Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi go the Mariners. While the Yankees lost their top prospect and maybe a future superstar, they brought a very young and promising pitcher Michael Pineda who hasn't reached his full potential yet and might turn into an ace while at the Yankees. This deal also fixed the Yankees pitching problems as their rotation should look something like this : CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova, Michael Pineda, Hiroki Kuroda and Phil Hughes.

2) Prince Fielder signs with Detroit

Just when you thought that this MLB Offseason couldn't get more shocking after the Angels signing Albert Pujols, it did. Another mystery team emerged and this time it was the Detroit Tigers with the surprising signing of the three time All-Star Prince Fielder. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Prince signed a nine year deal worth $214 million with the Detroit Tigers. This is a huge deal and another win for agent Scott Boras.
This deal makes Detroit a serious World-Series contender as they arguably have one of the best pitchers in Justin Verlander and now have two superstar power-hitters in Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder.
What a way to replace Victor Martinez who suffered an ACL injury during a workout in the offseason and will probably miss all of 2012.
Now the Tigers will have two first-basemen so this means that Miguel Cabrera will have to move to third base or become an outfielder and according to Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com, the slugger of Motown was "really excited" when he heard of the Prince Fielder agreement so don't expect him to act like Hanley Ramirez when Jose Reyes signed with the Miami Marlins.

1) Albert Pujols signs with the Angels

On December 10th, Albert Pujols shocked the baseball world as he left the St. Louis Cardinals to sign a $254 million deal with the Halos. This is obviously the best deal of the offseason as the Angels signed the best ball player. A lot of people critisized this deal as Pujols will get the most money in the end of his contract and he will be 41 years old. Even though it's true it's worth signing a player like Pujols for that much money because he will be worth every penny of the deal. The future is bright for the Angels of Anaheim as they have a very good pitching rotation and now with Pujols are also a threat offensively.
